Video otoscopy allows us to clearly visualize a patient’s ear canal and tympanic membrane (ear drum) by projecting an image onto a computer monitor. At Longhorn Hearing, we use video otoscopy at the start of every hearing test. Video otoscopy allows the audiologist to identify conditions of the outer ear, ear canal and tympanic membrane that can affect hearing and the testing process, including tympanic membrane perforations and earwax build up.
Video otoscopy ultimately provides both patients and audiologists with a greater understanding and appreciation for what is happening in the ear canal and at the tympanic membrane. It is a valuable tool for us to use within our audiology clinic.
